The Frozen North

The Frozen North is a harsh, unforgiving region of Eltheris, covered in snow and ice year-round. Jagged, icy mountains dominate the landscape, and ancient citadels and ruins lie buried beneath glaciers. This desolate region is home to the Frozen Citadel, a mysterious fortress that recently reappeared after centuries of being lost. Few venture into this treacherous land, as it is filled with deadly creatures and unpredictable magical phenomena brought on by dimensional rifts.

Despite its desolation, the Frozen North holds immense strategic and magical importance, drawing adventurers, sorcerers, and explorers eager to uncover the secrets buried beneath the ice.

Current Struggles

  1. The Awakening of the Frozen Citadel: A massive citadel, long frozen and buried in ice, has begun to stir with dark energy. This event has caused a surge in magical disturbances, and the creatures of the Frozen North have become more aggressive. The citadel’s reappearance has drawn adventurers and powerful entities, all vying to uncover its secrets or claim its power.

  2. Dimensional Instability: Dimensional rifts caused by the nearby Nexus Gate have made the Frozen North even more dangerous. These rifts unleash creatures from other planes and cause unpredictable weather patterns. The presence of these rifts has also created strange phenomena, such as time distortion and the appearance of fragments of other realms.

  3. Survival in the Harsh Climate: The unrelenting cold and dangerous terrain make survival difficult for those who venture into the region. Supplies are scarce, and even experienced travelers risk being caught in deadly snowstorms or attacked by the region's fierce predators.

Important Figures

Factions of the Frozen North

Notable Locations

  1. The Frozen Citadel: The centerpiece of the region, this massive, ice-covered fortress was lost for centuries beneath the glaciers. Its recent reappearance has drawn the attention of mages, adventurers, and power-hungry rulers. The citadel is rumored to hold ancient magic tied to dimensional planes, as well as great treasures for those who can survive its perils.

  2. Frosthaven: The only inhabited settlement in the Frozen North, Frosthaven is a small village that serves as a base for travelers and adventurers. The people of Frosthaven are tough and resilient, having adapted to the harsh conditions of the north. The village is led by Thane Orik Frosthammer, who is determined to keep his people safe from the dangers of the Frozen Citadel.

  3. The Glacial Rift: A massive canyon of ice, created by the instability of the Nexus Gate. The Glacial Rift is a dangerous area where dimensional rifts open frequently, unleashing strange creatures and warping the environment. The Riftwalkers have set up a research station nearby to study the rifts, but the area is fraught with danger.

  4. The Icebound Ruins: Scattered throughout the Frozen North are the remains of ancient civilizations, frozen in time and preserved by the cold. These ruins are filled with traps, ancient magic, and long-forgotten relics. They are often raided by treasure hunters or studied by scholars like Thalor Vayne, though few return from the depths of these icy tombs.
